Woolly Mammoths:  Surprises In the Snow!

During the past two hundred years, startling discoveries have been made in the far frozen north above the Arctic Circle.  Over 96,000 huge ivory tusks have been recovered from mammoths that were mysteriously buried in tons of ice.

Since 1800 at least ten scientific expeditions have excavated fleshly remains of the extinct mammoth.  Most of the  fleshly remains were buried in the permafrost of northern Siberia, inside the Arctic Circle.  Six were found in Alaska!

One of the most astonishing finds was the Berezovka Mammoth discovered in 1901 next to the Berezovka River in northern SiberiaThis perfectly preserved creature was found in the upright position with fresh grass and tropical plants still in it’s mouth.  It had been frozen and entombed in tons of ice so quickly that it didn’t have time to swallow and it’s mouth was full of tropical plants and grasses.  The weight of the ice was so great that it’s pelvis and legs were crushed while it was still alive!  Scientists believe that the preserved food in it’s stomach is proof that the temperature plummeted to at least -175F in a moment of time.  It was frozen in the eating position . . . not in panic or a running position.

Nearby were an assortment of other animals . . . JUNGLE and TROPICAL animals including rhinoceroses, tigers and lions! Warble fly larvae were found in the stomach and intestines of the mammoth and these insects grow only in extremely warm climates.  You can see the Berezovka Mammoth on display at the Zoological Museum in St Petersburg, Russia.  Of special interest was a 90 foot fruit tree also found nearby - proof that the vast northern region of our planet was once a tropical paradise.

These few examples are NOT just isolated and  rare cases of a few animals found above the Arctic Circle.  In one 600 mile stretch along the Siberian coast of the Arctic Ocean, it is estimated that over 5 million mammoths once lived along with other TROPICAL animals.  The remains of huge tropical trees are still being freed from the ice every year and washing up on the coasts of the New Siberian Islands  Oil drilling rigs in Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay have brought up many tropical plants including parts of palm trees, pine trees, and tropical plants of huge size and many varieties.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS TROPICAL PARADISE?

The Bible may hold the clue to this incredible mystery.  Job 38:22 refers to the “treasures in the snow and hail”.  These treasures are still being found yearly as perfectly preserved mammoth ivory is removed from Siberia to this very day!

The Scriptures also refer to a world wide flood that was caused when the “windows of heaven were opened and the fountains of the great deep were broken up.”  (Genesis 7:11-12)  Before this universal flood, it appears that plant and animal life lived longer and was much longer than today.  The earth was watered by a “mist” and there was no rain on planet earth.  (Genesis 2:5-6)  Imagine living in a world without violent storms!  It is probable that the earth was like a giant tropical terrarium before the flood which apparently came in the form of torrential rains at the equator and a frozen deluge at the polar caps.  Is it possible that the claims and time lines of evolutionary scientists are wrong and the Bible is true?

Note:  "The secular view of mammoths centers on an Ice Age environment and extinction some 10,000 years ago.  Some creationists view the mammoth remains as evidence from Noah's Flood.  These large animals could never live in an Arctic environment such as we find in Siberia and northern Alaska, primarily because there is no food supply compatible with their needs.  Scientific studies of these animals lead to the conclusion that they were from a temperate climate, there was a mass extinction of many of them, and many were buried along with trees and other vegetation after which the land became frozen by a sudden and permanent climate change.  The cause of the extinctions and burial appears to be a brief but massive flow of water from a post-Flood disturbance to the earth."  (Mammoths by Robert F.
