Is
Earth Really As Old As We Have Been Told?
Everything around us points to a young earth . . . SO where's the proof?
Earth
Rotation: The
24-hour spin of the earth (about 1,000 miles (1609 km) per hour), is
gradually slowing down. Gravitational drag forces of the sun,
moon, and other factors cause this. If the earth were really
billions of years old as some "evolutionary scientists" claim, it would
have already stopped turning on its axis!
Lord
Kelvin (the 19th century physicist who introduced the Kelvin temperature
scale) used this slowing rotation as a reason why the earth could not be
very old. It is now known that the decline in the rotation rate is
actually greater than previously thought by Kelvin (Thomas G. Barnes,
"Physics: A Challenge to 'Geologic times'," Impact 16, July 1974).
Consider
this: If we were to extrapolate backward from our present earth
spin rate, 5 million years ago, the planet would have been spinning so
fast it would have changed the shape from a round globe to a flat
pancake and would not have been able to support any type of life!
MAYBE THE WORLD WAS FLAT AT ONE TIME! The fact is, the gradual
reduction of the spin rate is proof positive that the earth is only
several thousand years old!
Magnetic
Field Decay: As
you probably know, the earth has a magnetic field. Without it, we
could not use compasses to identify the direction of magnetic north
which is close to the North Pole.
Dr.
Thomas G. Barnes, a physics teacher at the University of Texas, has
authored a widely used college textbook on electricity and magnetism.
Working with data collected over the past 135 years, he has pointed out
that the earth's magnetic field is gradually decaying. In
fact, he has shown that this magnetic field is decreasing exponentially,
according to a decay law similar to the decay of radioactive substances.
Since
1835 when German physicist K. F. Gauss made the first measurements of
the earth's magnetic strength, global magnetism has decreased 14 percent!
On the
basis of facts obtained from 1835 to 1965, this magnetic field appears
to have a half-life of just 1,400 years. On this basis, even
20,000 years ago there would have been enough "Joule" heat to liquefy
the entire earth! One million years ago the earth would have had
greater magnetism than all objects in the universe and it would have
vaporized!
From data
gathered about the decreasing magnetism of planet earth it would appear
that the earth could not be over 6,000 to 7,000 years old. What
does that do the theory of evolution?
Earth's
Topsoil: The
average depth of topsoil throughout the world is approximately eight
inches. Allowing for losses due to erosion, it has been calculated
that it requires 300 to 1,000 years to build one inch of topsoil.
Consider
this: If the world were even 1 million years old, there should be
nearly 84 feet of top soil! That would be a farmers delight . . .
but the fact is, the shallow topsoil points to an earth that is not over
10,000 years old.
Niagara
Falls: The
French explorer, Hennepin, first mapped Niagara Falls in 1678.
From that time until 1842, the falls eroded the cliff beneath them at a
rate of approximately 7 feet per year. More recent calculations
would indicate that Niagara Falls is eroding backward about 3 1/2 feet
per year.
The
length of the Niagara Falls gorge is about 7 miles . . . this indicates
that the falls have been eating away at the rock strata between 5,000
and 10,000 years.
River
Deltas: Have
you ever seen an air-view photograph of the Mississippi River Delta?
You can find an outline of it on any larger map of the United States.
The river
dumps some 300 million cubic yards of mud into the Gulf of Mexico every
year. For this reason, the State of Louisiana keeps getting larger
and larger every year! Yet, for the amount of sediment dumping
that occurs, the Mississippi delta is not really all that large.
In fact, calculations reveal that it has only been forming for the past
4,000 years. This would coincide with the time of the Biblical
flood of Noah!
English
evolutionist, Charles Lyell, once made a superficial examination of the
river and its delta and declared the river system to be 60,000 years old
since he said the delta was over 500 feet deep. Congress
commissioned General Andrew A. Humphreys to make a survey of the delta
area. He showed that the actual depth of the delta was only forty
feet deep. Below that was the blue clay of the Gulf, and below
that, marine fossils. General Humphreys calculated that the
formation of the Mississippi delta would have taken about 4,620 years .
. . dating back to the time of Noah's world-wide flood!
Growth of
Ocean Coral:
Coral in the ocean grows at a definite rate. Analysis of coral
growth in the oceans reveals that our earth is much younger than most
people think.
"Estimated old ages for the earth are frequently based on 'clocks' that
today are ticking at very slow rates. For example, coral growth
rates were for many years thought to be very slow, implying that some
coral reefs must be hundreds of thousands of years old. More
accurate measurements of these rates under favorable growth conditions
now show us that no known coral formation need be older than 3,500
years! (A. A. Roth, 'Coral Reef Growth' Origins, Vol. 6, No.
2, 1979, pp. 88-95)."
Tree
Rings : The
giant sequoias of California have no known enemies except man.
Only recently did man (with his saws) have the ability to easily destroy
them. Insects do not bother them, nor even forest fires.
Those gigantic redwood trees pointing toward Heaven live on, century
after century!
Yet the
sequoias are never older than about 4,000 years, coinciding with the end
of the Biblical flood of Noah!
Evolutionary "scientists" continue to indoctrinate the public with the
myth that the world slowly evolved over billions and billions of years.
The Bible actually speaks of this false teaching which is so prevalent
today:
"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of
His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things
continue as they were from the beginning of creation. For this
they willingly are ignorant of, that by the Word of God the
heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the
water, By which the world that then being overflowed with water
perished. But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same
Word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment
and perditions of ungodly men." 2 Peter 3:3-7
The Bible
tells us that the
"scoffers" will
"walk after their
own lusts."
The real issue about the false teaching of evolution is simply this
. . . immoral man will not make himself accountable to a holy God Who
created all things. This passage even refers to the false teaching
of UNIFORMITARIANISM that
"all things continue as
they were from the beginning . . . "
Let's
take a closer look at the world around us . . . maybe we
should return to the text book of life . . . it tells us that "In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1

the story of an earth that could not be over 10,000 years old!
