Jesus uttered chilling words of warning when He declared -- “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.  And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved . . . “  Matthew 24:21-22 

We appear to be approaching those days spoken of by Jesus.  Modern-day society was graphically described by the words of  Second Timothy chapter three -- “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”  The word perilous means desperate and confusing and that certainly describes our twenty-first century world! 

The passage then goes on to describe end-time society -- “For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection . . . despisers of those that are good . . . lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof . . . ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth . . . But evil men and seducers shall become worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”  (Excerpts taken from 2 Timothy chapter 3)

Who can deny that these ancient words  graphically described today’s troubled world?

The ancient prophets of Israel had plenty to say about cataclysmic days destined upon planet earth.  Isaiah chapter 24 is especially graphic -- “Behold, the LORD will make the earth empty, and will make it waste, and will turn it upside down, and will scatter abroad the inhabitants thereof . . . The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is thoroughly dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.  The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage without a foundation . . . the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.”  (Excerpts from Isaiah chapter 24)

"Isaiah tells us WHY such devastation is coming "upon the earth . . . verses 5 and 6 -- “The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the Everlasting Covenant.  Therefore will the curse devour the earth . . . “  The “everlasting covenant” may refer to the covenant God made with Noah when He established the sanctity of all human life. (See Isaiah 24:18 and Genesis 9:6)  There will be a terrible price to pay as we destroy the innocent and abort the unborn created in God’s image.

The only hope for man is personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior Who died on the cross and offers all men the gift of eternal life.  (See John 1:12, 3:16, 3:36, 5:24, Romans 3:23, 6:23, 8:1, 10:9-13)
